Gambling in the State of Kansas

Kansas offers a variety of legal gambling options for its residents and visitors. The first form of legalized gambling in the state was charitable bingo and raffles. Next came a state lottery, which later expanded to include four commercial casinos. This opened the door for tribal gaming in the state. There is also betting on horse races in Kansas, which later expanded to off-track betting and mobile betting apps.

Sports betting is the newest form of legal gaming in Kansas. Sportsbooks opened at casinos on September 1, 2022. Then mobile and online sportsbooks came online over the following week. It was one of the fastest launches of legal sports betting in United States history. It only took a few weeks to get the new industry off the ground. In other states, it has taken a year or longer in some cases.

The minimum age to gamble on the state lottery and at charitable events, including raffles and bingo games, is 18. To play casino games and bet on sports the minimum age is 21.
