677 Main Street, Deadwood, SD | 605-578-1555 | Midnight Star Casino
The Midnight Star is one of the original Deadwood casinos. It is on Main Street. Midnight Star was opened by actor Kevin Costner in 1991. He loved the Black Hills and wanted to be part of its newest industry.
The Midnight Star became a popular visit for Deadwood tourists checking out the celebrity’s casino. However, it was not popular among locals. The casino was known for not being kind to people who lived around Deadwood. This turned into a big problem when the popularity of the tourist town dropped after the “Deadwood” TV show stopped and the Great Recession started.
The attitude towards locals came back to bite Midnight Star. Costner closed Midnight Star in 2017 after years of it being mostly void of gamblers. It was purchased by its current owners and reopened in 2020.
Midnight Star offers slots, video poker, a table game pit, a sportsbook, a casino bar, event space, Jake’s Fine Dining, and Diamond Lil’s Bar & Grill.
