Ameristar Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado

Ameristar Casino is one of the largest properties in Black Hawk. It offers about 940 slot and video poker machines, along with 40 live table games on two floors. Stadium gaming is available on the first floor with additional video versions on the casino floor. There is also a sportsbook and a poker room on the second level.

Just off Main Street, the casino is located at 111 Richman Street. It offers 536 hotel rooms, including 64 suites. Other property amenities include multiple dining options and bars, a spa, and a rooftop pool.

Ameristar Casino

The Ameristar Casino floor is on two levels. All live table games are on the lower level. There are a total of 40 tables at Ameristar in Black Hawk. The following are the limits we found during our August 2024 visit. 

There were $15 six-deck blackjack tables during our visit. At these tables, players may double down on any two cards before or after splitting. Aces may be re-split into four hands. Blackjack pays 3:2, and the dealer hits soft 17. A $100 double-deck game has these rules and permits re-splitting aces. The maximum bet is $5,000. Free Bet Blackjack pays 6:5 and starts at $15.

Double-zero roulette was available with $15 limits. Craps was $15, it has 100 times odds, and the field pays double on 12. These games have four tables each.

Other table games include baccarat, Mississippi Stud, Three Card Poker, Pai Gow Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. The poker games typically have $10-15 limits. Baccarat starts at $25 with maximum bets of $5,000 or more.

The downstairs level has stadium gaming. The stadium gaming offers $5 games. Options include 3:2 blackjack, craps, and 00 roulette. Blackjack offers two side bets and craps pays triple on a field 12. Other electronic table games include heads-up craps and multiplayer 00 roulette. Heads-up craps only pays double on a field 12. One roulette machine has a $5 minimum; the other is $3 and offers a Mystery Golden Ball side bet.

Video poker

The video poker at Ameristar is average for Black Hawk. Our top pick is 8/5 Bonus Poker. It is offered in quarter, half-dollar, and dollar on machines along the wall by the blackjack pit. These machines also have 9/7/5 Double Bonus and 9/6 Double Double Bonus. There is a 9/6 Jacks or Better game on these machines. However, it only pays 500:1 on a royal flush, as opposed to the normal 800:1 for a full-pay Jacks or Better game. 

There is some video poker in the high-limit salon. The best game is 9/6 Double Double Bonus with progressives on $1, $2, and $5 denominations. These machines also have 9/5 Jacks or Better. 

High-limit is home to some Game King machines with a large library of games. The denominations are half-dollar and dollar. The games include 3/5/10-play, Super Times Pay, Double Super Times Pay, Spin Poker, Ultimate X, and Extra Draw. 

Most of the other video poker is located upstairs. It is behind the poker room in a special video poker area. You will find lower limits of the Game King library, as well as Super Triple Play, Ultimate X, and 100-play games. There are also some half-dollar 9/5 Double Double Bonus machines in this area.

Ameristar Black Hawk poker room

There are 11 poker tables at the Ameristar poker room in Black Hawk. Nine players are seated per table. There are no tournaments dealt at Ameristar. All action is at cash games. 

The dropping of the $100 bet limit brought no-limit Texas hold’em cash games to the Ameristar poker room. Typical limits are 1/3, 2/5, and 5/10. The buy-in for 1/3 is $100 to $300. It is $200 to $700 for 2/5 and $500 to $2,000 for 5/10. Big-O is dealt during busy hours.

Regular 30/60 and 100/200 fixed-limit hold’em games are also spread. Poker players earn $1 an hour in comps. 

Sportsbook

The sportsbook is next to the poker room on the second floor. It has undergone multiple transformations since it opened in 2020. The branding of the sportsbook changed along with the seating. At one point there was a live table game pit. Now, there is assorted lounge and hightop seating. There is a 24-foot video wall and 29 HDTVs. Wagers may be made at the counter, at one of the 13 kiosks, or on the ESPN Sports mobile betting app. Counter service is available daily starting at 10am. Kiosks are available 24 hours a day.

Penn Play player club

Ameristar uses the Penn Play players club. It was once called mychoice. There are five tiers. Players start at Choice. It is nearly identical to the Advantage tier above it. 

Perks start at Preferred, which is 18,000 tier points per year. These players receive Las Vegas offers and VIP lounge access. Elite starts at 50,000 tier points annually. This adds a casino host, free check-cashing services, waived resort fees, and VIP line passes, among other perks. 

The top Penn Play players club tier is Owners Club. This requires 200,000 tier points annually. It includes a $500 travel reimbursement, an annual celebration dinner, a birthday dinner with your host, and an invite to a quarterly reception with the casino general manager.

Penn Play players club return

Players earn one tier point for every $5 in slot, $10 at video poker, and $40 at electronic table games. Table games are rated based on the amount of wager, game played, and length of session. Players receive at least $1 in PENNcash for every 400 tier points achieved. 

Ameristar promotions

Ameristar offers seasonal promotions. These include free play and luxury car giveaways, point multipliers, and kiosk games. 

Dining and drinks at Ameristar Casino

There are four restaurants and multiple bars at Ameristar Casino. Fireside Kitchen allows minors to dine while the other dining options are located within age-restricted areas. Bar fare is available in the sportsbook. Additionally, there is 24-hour automated food vending available.

Centennial Market Buffet is open for dinner Friday through Sunday and brunch on Sunday. Dinner features seafood options, prime rib, fried chicken, and more. The dinner buffet is $48.99 while brunch is $35.99. A pound of crab legs can be added for an additional $9.99.

Located off the main casino floor, Timberline Grill is open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday. The steakhouse is centered around a fireplace and features signature steak and seafood dishes. JINYA serves contemporary Japanese cuisine.

Located upstairs with tables around a fireplace for a warm cabin feel, Fireside Kitchen is open daily. Breakfast is served until 11am. The breakfast menu includes omelets and breakfast skillets. Lunch and dinner feature salad, sandwich, and entrée options.

Property amenities include a rooftop pool that becomes an indoor pool during the winter, hot tubs, Ara Spa, a 24-hour fitness center, a gift shop, and in-room dining. On the ninth floor of the hotel, the spa offers massages, body therapy, nail and hair salon, facials, and waxing services. Meeting facilities ranging from 450 to 5,000 square feet are available to accommodate groups and large events.

Rooms and suites

All rooms at Ameristar Casino include a safe, coffee maker, refrigerator, dual vanity, and TV. The 400-square-foot Deluxe rooms feature either a single king bed or two queen beds. Upgrading to a Luxury room offers the same bed options but with a view of the city. The Spa and Mountain Pine Suites feature a living area, fireplace, two TVs, a whirlpool bath, a wet bar, a second bathroom, and a panoramic Rocky Mountain view.
