There are five live poker rooms in Colorado casinos. Four are in Black Hawk. These are Ameristar, Golden Gates, Isle Casino and Monarch Casino. There is another at Midnight Rose in Cripple Creek. It reopened in 2022.

All Colorado poker rooms seat up to nine players per table. Bally’s and Horseshoe are the only poker rooms in Colorado that deal tournaments. The other poker rooms in the state only have cash games.

Black Hawk, Colorado

Ameristar poker room

There are 11 tables in the Ameristar poker room. There are nine seats per table. It is open 24 hours a day. The Ameristar poker room only deals cash games. It has no tournaments.

The main games are no-limit Texas hold’em. Blinds are generally 1/3 or 2/5. The buy-in for 1/3 is $100 to $400. It is $300 to $1,000 for 2/5. If a 5/10 runs, it is $500 to $2,000. These games have two bad beat jackpots. Rake is timed at games of 5/10 no-limit and higher.

Pot limit Omaha has 1/3/5, 5/5, and 5/10 blinds Omaha during busy hours. The buy-ins are $100-$500, $300 to $2,000, and $500 to uncapped, respectively. The other regular game is a 30/60 fixed-limit Texas hold’em game.

There is a descending bad beat jackpot at Ameristar. Poker players earn $1 an hour in food comps or $0.50 in free play per hour when clocked in with a Penn Play card. Players who give two hours of action before 10am get a $10 food comp. Five hours of action in a day receive a reduced hotel rate.

High hands run daily outside of football season. The payouts are usually $300 to $500. Hours are usually afternoons with some late mornings and early evening times. In the fall, football squares replace high hands on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays.

Bally’s (formerly Golden Gates) poker room

The Bally’s poker room is in Black Hawk. There are 17 tables. It opens at 9am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and closes around 2am, depending on when the last game breaks. It is open 24 hours on all other days.

The main game is 1/3 no-limit Texas hold’em with a $100 to $300 buy-in. The 2/5 game runs at busier times. Its buy-in is $200 to $1,000. A 5/10 no-limit game has a buy-in range of $500 to $2,000.

Bally’s poker room also offers 1/3, 5/5, and 5/10 pot limit games. The buy-ins for those games are $100 to $500 buy-in, $300-$1,000, and $500 to $4,000, respectively.

Cash game players earn $1.25 an hour in comps. Other promotions include Monte Carlo hand giveaways and hourly bonuses like rakeback. In November 2024, players receive $50 for 20 hours of cash game action, $75 for 30 hours, and $100 for $40 hours.

There is also a descending bad beat jackpot. Players receive a $15 food comp for two hours of action between 10am and 6pm daily.

Horseshoe poker room (formerly Isle Casino)

The Horseshoe in Black Hawk is home to seven poker tables. Its poker room was rebranded as WSOP by the end of the summer of 2022. The property became Horseshoe. It was previously Isle Casino.

The Horseshoe Black Hawk poker room opens at 9am Thursday to Sunday. It closes when the last game breaks. It is now dark on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

The two usual games at the Horseshoe poker room in Black Hawk are 2/10 spread limit and 1/3 no limit Texas hold’em. The no-limit buy-in is $100 to $500. A 2/5 no-limit game has a $200 to $1,000 buy-in, while the 4/8 limit with a half-kill has a minimum buy-in of $100. The 1-2-10 game has a $60 minimum buy-in.

Promotions include a bad beat jackpot. There are also high hand promotions. Cash game players receive $1.25 in comps when clocked in with their Caesars Rewards card. Tournaments are currently suspended.

The Horseshoe Poker room is at the top of the escalators on the second level. It is near the Lady Luck parking elevators and front desk. A bathroom and smoking terrace are within the poker room.

Monarch

The Monarch poker room opened in May 2021. It has 11 tables. It is open 24 hours a day.

The main games are 1/3 and 2/5 no limit Texas hold’em. The buy-ins are $100 to $500 for 1/3 and $200 to $2000 for 2/5. A regular 1/3 pot limit Omaha game has a $100 minimum buy-in and $500 max. There is often a 30/60 fixed limit and 5/10 no limit Texas hold’em game when it is busy. The 5/10 game has a minimum buy-in of $500. It is uncapped. The 5/5 PLO games are also uncapped.

If the 10/25 no-limit hold’em game gets off the ground, it has a $1,000 minimum buy-in. There is no cap.

There are three bad beat jackpots. One is for aces full of tens beaten. There is another for quads and one for a straight flush losing to a higher one or royal flush.

High hands run during slower hours. Six hours of cash game action get a $109 weekday hotel room. Play 32 hours of cash games in a week and receive a free weekday room. Players receive $1.50 an hour while clocked into a cash game.
