Monarch Casino in Black Hawk, Colorado

Monarch Casino is a newly remodeled casino in Black Hawk, Colorado. Its attached 23-story hotel opened in November 2020. Located at 488 Main Street, the casino area at Monarch Casino covers three floors. Table games and a large bar are on the lower level and a sportsbook is on the third floor. Slots and video poker are available on multiple floors. Keno is also available.

There are four restaurants and a coffee shop at Monarch Casino. The hotel offers 516 guest rooms with a rooftop indoor pool, spa, and fitness center.

Monarch Casino

There are over 1,000 slot and video poker machines at Monarch Casino in Black Hawk. The slots are mostly modern titles, often with multiple denominations. We last visited the property in August 2024.

Table games

There are 42 table games at Monarch Casino. Two are double deck and 15 are six-deck blackjack. All games allow doubling down on two cards before and after splitting, blackjack pays 3:2 and the dealer hits soft 17. In the six-deck version, Aces may be split up to four hands. The limits were $15 to $500 during our October 2021 visit. The double deck was $50 to $1,500.

There is a $25 double zero roulette table. Pai gow poker is also $25. Heads Up Hold’em, Three Card Prime Poker, and Deuces Wild Extreme have $10 limits. For $15, craps offers 20 times odds. The field now pays double on 12, like the rest of Colorado casino. Baccarat is available for $50.

Hybrid Interblock craps is available for $10. This game has a live dealer and real dice. Bets are made on a touchscreen.

There is a large selection of heads-up and multiplayer electronic table games. Heads-up options include blackjack, craps, and crapless craps. Craps has a $1 minimum; the other games are $3. Both dice games pay double on a field 12. Blackjack pays 3:2. Also for a $3 minimum, players can find a multiplayer baccarat machine. Multiplayer 00 roulette games have a $5 minimum.

Video poker

Monarch has some of the worst Black Hawk video poker. The only 99% games are in the high-limit slots area next to the sportsbook. Video poker variants include 3/5/10-play, 50-play, Spin Poker, Super Times Pay, and Ultimate X.

Monarch Rewards is the players club. Comps are earned on the card based on the theoretical edge. These may be used at the hotel, spa, and the casino’s dining outlets. Dining and drinks at Monarch Casino

There are four restaurants and a coffee shop at Monarch Casino. There are three restaurants on the third floor. Near the sportsbook, Bistro Mariposa serves southwestern Baja cuisine. Menu items include tapas, tacos, soups, salads, and entrees.

The Monarch Chophouse is located near the elevators. This upscale steakhouse serves prime beef, seafood, and lamb. A large wine list and cocktails are available. Table-side preparations feature Caesar salad, Steak Diane, and “321 Below” ice cream that is frozen using liquid nitrogen.

The Buffet serves lunch on weekdays, brunch on weekends, and dinner nightly. Food stations feature soups, salad, prime rib, Vietnamese Pho, and a Mongolian grill. Lunch is $28.99 and weeknight dinner is $53.99. Brunch and dinner Friday and Saturday are $58.99. Lobster tail or crab clusters can be added for an additional $9.99. Children age 4 to 10 eat for a discounted price.

Twenty-Four 7 is located on the second floor across from the rewards center. Serving Asian and American cuisine, the menu features burgers, pizza, stir-fry, and an all-day breakfast. The nearby Java etc is a coffee shop serving Starbucks coffee, Teavana tea, pastries, sandwiches, and gelato.

Monarch Resort

Monarch Casino offers 23 floors with 516 guest rooms. Rooms are subject to a $29 resort fee per room per night. The resort fee includes access to the fitness center, pool and spa, and two in-room bottles of water.

Resort amenities

Hotel amenities include airline boarding pass printing and access to Spa Monarch with its year-round indoor/outdoor rooftop pool and fitness center. Six meeting rooms, including an almost 4,000-square-foot ballroom, can accommodate groups of four to 400.

Located on the twenty-third floor, the spa menu includes massages, facials, skincare, and body wraps with nail and hair salon services. Hotel and spa guests may access the pool daily from 6am until 10pm. However, guests under 21 can only swim from 10am until 6pm and children under 16 require adult supervision. The pool bar is open daily from 11am until 8pm. The fitness center is open from 6am until 10pm daily. Guests can work out to views of Black Hawk and the surrounding mountains

All rooms at Monarch Casino include wifi, TV, Bluetooth-enabled alarm clock, refrigerator with two complimentary bottles of water, iron/ironing board, safe, and coffee maker.  Rooms feature either one king or two queen beds. Guests in Club rooms also have access to the Club Lounge. Multiple suite trims are also available: King Spa Suite, Corner View Suite, Grand Parlor Spa Suite, Ultimate Spa and Suana Suite, Balcony Signature Suite, and Penthouse Sky Suites with one or two bedrooms.
